How Do We Tell Mom and Dad? What Will We Tell the Kids?

Happy Three Kings Day! The day the gifts arrived.

Think about your gift of words. In 2020, let's have those difficult conversations with our children and our parents.

PARENT TO ADULT CHILDREN & CHILD TO PARENT HOW TO HAVE THE CHALLENGING CONVERSATIONS

PARENTS——- WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR DECISIONS TO DOWN SIZE? HOW DO YOU DISCUSS WHO GETS WHAT TREASURES? DO THEY KNOW YOUR MEDICAL WISHES? HOW YOU WANT TO DIE AND BE REMEMBERED?

CHILDREN—— WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR PARENTS TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR WORRIES? HOW DO YOU MAKE SURE THEY ARE SAFE? DO YOU KNOW IF THEIR PAPERS ARE IN ORDER? DO YOU KNOW WHAT THEY WANT IF THEY GET SICK? HOW DO YOU ASK WHAT THEY WANT TO DO WITH THEIR HOUSE FULL OF “STUFF”?

These are some difficult questions families need to have.

And it is not easy to be the initiator of such conversations. However, once you start, and commit to continuing, it is easier.

Remember, it's no different than talking to your kids or parents about sex! If you did that, talking about death will be doable. You will survive and all of you, old and older, will be relieved to have the answers to the difficult questions.

Death rattles our foundation. Fear takes over. However if we share our fears, our wishes, our beliefs, and remove the secrets, we provide the confidence to discuss our wishes with those we love.

If you are in the Bay Area, join us for a workshop on how to move forward and share answers to the questions we don't want to ask!

Tina will be facilitating a workshop January 25, Saturday, to explore your fears about these topics, how to begin the conversations and how to make plans for the implementation of both parents' and children's wishes. Done with humor and factual information, this is a good way to begin the New Year's resolution of "Getting Life in Order" and a real gift to those we love.
